Live Chat Overlay on Ustream.tv Posted on November 18th, 2008 by Jake Wright |
ustream.tv is the website I use to broadcast live video over the internet. I know many of you also use ustream.tv to do the same thing so this may be useful for you.
On the homepage of ustream.tv, you may have noticed that the featured video has a live chat overlay. That is just the chat from the show page, over the video. Don’t get confused, it’s not actually in the video, it’s just over the top and you have the option whether or not you want to see it. I have been wondering how to do this for a while as I thought it would be a good way for people visiting my website to see what people are talking about in the chat without actually visiting theLive Page. I have recently found out how to do this and figured that some of you will probably have been wondering the same thing.
This doesn’t actually work on your ustream showpage, as you have to edit the embed code to achieve the chat overlay effect. If you take a look at the embed code (on your website or blog for example), there should be a bit that looks like this:
… autoplay=false&brand=embed …
What you need to do is add the following phrase after the words “brand=embed”:
&chat=true
After doing that, it should look something like this:
“autoplay=false&brand=embed&chat=true”
Now when you visit the page with the live stream embedded in it, you will see the chat room over the bottom of the video. Enjoy
